The 300-page publication, due to its scale, it can hardly be described simply as a zine, consists of photographs taken during a 2017 trip to South America. Its creator, Tamás Budha Kovács, systematically documented the urban environment surrounding him throughout the one-month journey. Rather than focusing on architecture or differences from European culture, he concentrated on one of the most defining forms of urban trace-making: graffiti.
Budha Tamás has been working with this urban phenomenon since the early 2000s, both as a visual artist and as a documentarian, preserving these mostly ephemeral visual traces. We may refer to them as urban traces, street art, urban art, or graffiti, all of which can be understood as imprints of individual expression emerging in public space, shaped by mass culture.
